BREAKING: Formula E Unveils the GEN3 Evo

Formula E has today launched the GEN3 Evo, the next evolution of the electric racing car, in Monaco.

Faster. Stronger. More Agile. The New GEN3 Evo has been unveiled as Formula E’s new race car, and it promises to be a spectacular show for fans.

The GEN3 Evo will become the quickest accelerating FIA single-seater race car when it debuts in Season 11, being capable of 0-60mph in 1.82 seconds. This makes it 30% faster off the line than a current F1 car and nearly a second quicker to 60mph than the current GEN3. The GEN3 Evo will also be able to achieve a top speed of 200mph, making it the fastest Formula E car yet.

Helping the car get off the line is a new All-Wheel Drive system, which will be available during qualifying duels, race starts, and attack mode. This improves acceleration as well as grip, which the FIA and Formula E have also worked to improve. New optimised all-weather Hankook iON tires will provide 5-10% more grip than the current GEN3 cars, while they will be made of 35% recycled and sustainable materials, an improvement of 9%.

The GEN3 Evo also sports a new aggressive body kit designed to be stronger, more robust, and more aerodynamic, delivering closer racing and better performance. The car is estimated to be around 2 seconds faster on a qualifying lap around Monaco than the current GEN3 spec.

Formula E have also continued to build on improvements to sustainability to achieve their target of net zero carbon. The powertrains have an efficiency of 90%, overshadowing the 40% that is typical of internal combustion engines. Regenerative braking allows 50% of the energy needed to complete the race to be generated on track, while development continues on ultra-fast charging capability which will allow a 30 second 600kw charge for additional energy in the race. The sport is also working on sustainability behind the scenes, with sustainable battery development, a sustainable supply chain, and open development of road-relevant technologies by teams all working towards a more sustainable future.

The excitement is clear from the top. The CEO of Formula E, Jeff Dodds, has said that the GEN3 Evo is “set to intensify the thrill of our racing, captivating our drivers and fans around the world with truly superior capabilities and performance.” The President of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, also highlighted the impact of the new car on sustainability, saying “I would like to thank both FIA and Formula E teams for the hard work which underlines our shared commitment to pushing the boundaries of sustainable motorsport, while delivering competitive racing.”

The GEN3 Evo is a big step forward in the speed, strength, and sustainability of electric racing cars. The FIA and Formula E have been hard at work to develop a car that promises to deliver great racing at high speeds, as well as taking the environment into account. The stats are mind-boggling, and the product will be spectacular.
