PREMA have today announced that Andrea Kimi Antonelli, this year's Formula Regional European Champion, will be joining their Formula 2 Team in 2024, becoming the first driver to be announced for the 2024 FIA Formula 2 Championship.
The graduation comes as the 17-year-old Mercedes Junior has dominated most of the junior single seater championships over the past 2 years. Winning every championship in which he has completed a full season. Amassing an impressive 33 wins over his span of single seater championships in the last 2 years.
The Italian will be looking to make a strong impression in his debut season but has stated that he doesn’t want to “set expectations”' and is currently just looking to “have fun as always, and do a good job”.
The transition from FRECA to F2 will be a significant one, but he’ll be making it with a team he’s been with from the start of his single-seater career, and backed by the Mercedes Junior Programme. This will hopefully be a recipe for continued success for the Italian junior driver.

Antonelli’s first taste of the Formula 2 car will come at the post-season test at Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi, from November 29th to December 1st.
